8-year-old holds hand of crying classmate with autism so he feels less scared on first day of school

In a day and age when it seems like all humanity is lost, it can be hard to keep faith in mankind. Some days, it’s as if all the injustices in the world go unnoticed, especially when society is more divided than ever. It’s during these times that even the smallest stories of kindness and compassion can make the most impact. When 8-year-old Christian noticed that his classmate Connor, who was diagnosed with autism, was crying in a corner and decided to comfort him, it warmed his mother Courtney Coko Moore’s heart. She took to Facebook to share her son’s story, which immediately went viral, Fox News reports.

On the second graders’ first day of school, Christian’s mom dropped him off and planned to leave, but not before she encountered her son’s selfless act of friendship. He noticed that his classmate Connor was finding it difficult to adjust during the first day back to school. Unable to deal with his emotions, he was holed up in a corner, crying all by himself. Seeing this, Christian went up to his friend, consoled him, then held his hand and walked him into school.

Courtney shared the beautiful moment on Facebook, stating: “I’m so proud of my son, he seen a kid balled up into a corner crying, so he went to console him, grabbed his hand and walked him inside of the school! It is an honor to raise such a loving, compassionate child! He’s a kid with a big heart, the first day of school started off right.” In response, Connor’s mom April Cites decided to thank Courtney and her sweet son. She commented: “Tell your son I said thank you so very much! That little boy he helped is my son and is autistic, I worry everyday that he is going to get bullied for being different and your son just absolutely warmed my heart. If there were more children like him I wouldn’t worry about such things.”
