Recently, the attorney for former President Donald Trump, Alina Habba, sat down with Fox News, where she discussed the courtroom atmosphere of Trump’s fraud trial. Habba slammed the case against Trump, claiming it is the “most ridiculous case” she has ever seen.
According to NBC News, Donald Trump is facing a $250 million fraud lawsuit brought against him by New York Attorney General Letitia James. The case claims Mr. Trump misrepresented his net worth by billions. “Banks loved our business, they loved our deals, they weren’t defrauded,” Trump stated. “They made a lot of money, and they considered me a very good client.”
Trump claimed the trial amounts to “election interference” since it distracts him from efforts on the campaign trail. “I’ve been sitting in a courthouse all day long instead of being in Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina or a lot of other places I could be at,” Trump said. “This is a horrible situation for our country.”
Habba agreed with former President Trump, claiming the trial is politically motivated. Slamming the case, the attorney stated, “And then there’s this world that they all live in, and they put on quite a performance trying to make it look like there was corruption that doesn’t exist. And we got up and we made it very clear. First, let’s start with something very basic. We are not supposed to be here doing this trial right now because we’re not even sure what the scope is because the Appellate Division hasn’t said so.”
Fox News host Jesse Watters questioned Habba why Trump chose to appear at the courthouse when he wasn’t required to. The attorney responded that the former president felt obligated to defend the company he had built as a successful entrepreneur before his involvement in politics.
“Because this is his company. This is his life. And people forget that President Trump I hope they don’t forget you shouldn’t you can. President Trump was a very important person before he was President. He was a successful businessman, which is why he was a great president. He built this company from scratch, and now they’re attacking his business, the people that work for this business and his children,” Habba said.
Habba reaffirmed that the case brought against Mr. Trump was unjustified, claiming it is subverting the justice system. “It’s uncanny and he’s not going to stand for it because this is political law. Fair. This isn’t this isn’t the justice system. This is political 100% he needed to be there. You needed to look him in the eye does he beat this whole rap? He should and if he doesn’t beat it in this court, I’ll tell you right now we’ll beat it somewhere else. This is this is the most ridiculous case I’ve ever seen,” she continued.
Alina Habba has consistently been involved in defending Trump in his legal battles. Recently, she appeared outside of a Washington, D.C. courthouse defending the former president prior to his arraignment. Watch footage of the event below.
