Teens Find Creature Trapped Under Car, Left Stunned When Vet Discovers What It Really Is

In Saint Andrews, two teens, Jaydon Pettipas and Aidan Hart, rescued a squirrel trapped in foam insulation. While on a walk, they discovered the distressed animal and realized it needed urgent help. Aidan fetched a milk crate from a grocery store to temporarily house the squirrel, while they sought assistance.

Jaydon Pettipas said, “No one really knew what to do with it.”

With their quick thinking, they contacted family and friends for help. Jaydon’s mother got in touch with a veterinary clinic 33 kilometers away in St. George, and they were advised to bring the squirrel immediately.

At the clinic, Dr. Melanie Eagan found the squirrel in a terrible state due to the foam insulation. She believed the squirrel had unintentionally gotten trapped while seeking shelter. It took time and patience to remove the hardened foam, resulting in fur loss and skin abrasions. The resilient squirrel was eventually released near the clinic.

Jaydon Pettipas stressed the importance of helping animals in need, saying, “I definitely learned that it’s kind to help out, especially animals in need.” This heartwarming story underscores the value of quick and compassionate action in aiding animals in dire situations.
