Face Transplant Miracle: Patrick Hardison’s Astonishing Journey from Third-Degree Burns to Today

In 2001, Patrick, a dedicated volunteer firefighter, suffered horrific burns when a building collapsed on him. His face was terribly disfigured, leading to 70 surgeries, constant pain, and emotional suffering. He felt isolated and couldn’t be around his own children.

Patrick’s hope was rekindled when he heard about Isabelle Dinoire, who received a face transplant. He met with Dr. Eduardo Rodriguez, who promised to do a face transplant if a matching donor could be found. A 26-year-old named David Rodebaugh, declared brain dead after a bike accident, became the donor. David’s mother, Nancy Millar, agreed to donate his face.

The 26-hour surgery was risky, but Patrick received a new face, scalp, ears, eyelids, and more. He also met Nancy, who wanted to kiss his forehead, a gesture she used to do with her son.

Patrick takes anti-rejection medications and has embraced his new life. He’s writing a book to inspire others, showing that there’s hope even in the darkest times. Patrick’s recovery, with the help of medical professionals and the generosity of Nancy, is truly remarkable.
