Phyllis Pena, a courageous mom, risked her life to stop a man from peering into her daughter’s window. On a January morning, Pena saw 19-year-old Zane Hawkins outside her 15-year-old daughter’s window. When Hawkins tried to escape, police pursued him, but he made another attempt. Pena sprang into action, tackling him, as captured by a dashcam.
Sgt. Roy Welch praised her bravery, saying, “It’s not very often that we have somebody that actually steps in, puts themself in harm’s way to assist in apprehending somebody.” Pena, undaunted by the danger, stated, “My kids are my life, and just making sure I protect them.”
Hawkins faced charges of drug possession, evading arrest, and resisting arrest. Phyllis Pena’s unwavering devotion to her children is a powerful reminder of a mother’s protective instincts.
