A baby boy, born at just 24 weeks and weighing only 720 grams, was classified as extremely premature. He was so small that one hand was as thin as an adult’s finger. Following stabilization, the baby was transferred to a higher-level maternity hospital via ambulance, under the care of neonatologists.
Specialist doctors emphasize the importance of regular prenatal check-ups, as some pregnant women only seek medical attention when they go into labor, significantly increasing the risk of troubled births or premature babies.
The youngest baby born at the maternity unit weighed a mere 580 grams, while at the other end of the spectrum, the heaviest baby born there, in July 2008, tipped the scales at just over 6 kilograms.
