A 60-year-old Serbian woman, Atifa, struggled for two decades to have a child, but finally succeeded in having a baby girl named Alina. Tragically, her husband abandoned her right after Alina’s birth, claiming he couldn’t handle the demands of a newborn. Both parents had health issues; Atifa had high blood pressure, and her husband had diabetes and heart disease.
During her pregnancy, Atifa spent three months in the hospital due to the pregnancy being considered risky. As a result, Alina’s father refuses to give her legal recognition, so she won’t bear his last name.
Despite her meager pension and past work at a textile mill, Atifa is determined to raise Alina alone. She stated, “No matter what, whether Serif stays or goes, I will do my best to raise Alina. I’ll just live for her. Although I am aware that it won’t be simple, I believe that many people will want to support me.”
