On January 20, 2016, 18-year-old Laura Hillier lost her battle with acute myeloid leukemia. Initially diagnosed at 13, she bravely fought the disease for years. Her family, sharing the sad news on the Hope for Laura Facebook page, said, “Her poise, her courage, her strength and her pure spirit shone through right until the end.”
Nelson High School, where Laura was a beloved student, united to celebrate her life creatively. Using vibrant markers, they transformed her casket into a beautiful yearbook, capturing her contagious enthusiasm and remarkable talent. The heartfelt notes, like “You were musical. You were artistic. You were understanding. You were my best friend,” adorned the casket in a touching tribute.
Laura’s favorite color, purple, infused the funeral service, reflecting her vibrant spirit. Donations in her name can be made to Coast to Coast, a charity fighting childhood cancer. Laura’s legacy lives on in this touching memorial that went viral, touching hearts worldwide.
