Champion Gymnast Turns Heads For One Reason That’s Hard To Spot

Chelsea Werner, born with Down syndrome 25 years ago, defies odds, embodying resilience and determination. Initially told that maintaining healthy muscle tone was insurmountable, her parents rejected limitations, fostering her fitness. Starting soccer and swimming at 8, Chelsea found her passion in gymnastics, guided by coach Dawn Pombo.

Entering the Special Olympics in 2012 marked the beginning of her remarkable journey. Winning national championships and earning two world titles solidified her place on the Olympic podium. Her mother, Lisa Werner, attributes Chelsea’s success to a strong work ethic developed through gymnastics, emphasizing discipline and navigating challenges.
