Beneath an Italian farm near Verona, architects unearthed a Roman mosaic, part of a villa found over a century ago. The intricate flooring, believed to date back to the 3rd century AD, was discovered after decades of attempts. Archaeologists are connecting with the property owners and the municipality to make this treasure accessible. The Superintendent of Archaeology restarted excavation last summer after a hiatus since 1922, but the pandemic caused a temporary halt. Archaeologist Myko Clelland shared the find online, which quickly went viral. The significance lies in uncovering “part of the flooring and foundations of the Roman Villa,” emphasizing the importance of tracking this historical road. Though the results may take time and resources, the discovery marks a crucial step in revealing the past beneath our feet.
