Illinois couple Leo and Ruth Zanger, married for 66 years, boast a colossal family with 100 grandkids. The quest for the 99th grandchild led to excitement before the arrival of Jaxton Leo Zanger in 2015. Some are technically great-grandchildren, but the Zangers don’t fuss over the distinction. The family tree began with Leo and Ruth’s 12 children, the eldest already a parent when the youngest was born, making the youngest an uncle from birth. With 53 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren, they hit 99, the last being a great-great-grandchild. Daughter Donna Lane describes their gatherings as “big. It’s really big.” The Zangers’ remarkable family saga highlights enduring love and generations intertwined.
