Gulfport, Mississippi resident Ellouise Lewis, aged 90, fulfilled a lifelong dream by obtaining her GED certificate. Lewis had to leave high school in the 10th grade, and after seven decades, she achieved this milestone at her nursing home with the help of Gulfport Care Center staff. Lisa Perdue, Activity Director, expressed her joy in making Lewis’s dream a reality. The nursing home collaborated with Wells of South Gate, an adult learning center, for Lewis to take adult classes. Although not an official GED, Lewis’s success in the center’s course underscores her determination and knowledge. Lewis, the first honorary GED recipient from the organization, said, “It makes me happy to know that I can do it.”
