He Paid Only $2 for The Old Picture at a Flea Market.

In 2010, Randy Guijarro made a remarkable discovery, turning a $2 thrift store find into a million-dollar treasure: a rare 1878 photograph of Billy the Kid playing croquet. Guijarro, a telecommunications technician, and his wife, Linda, stumbled upon the image in Fresno, California. They now plan to use the proceeds, valued at $5 million, for travel and other ventures. Guijarro describes their passion for uncovering forgotten history, stating, “Going on adventures is fun for us. The hunt is an absolutely magnificent occasion.” The photograph, only the second confirmed image of Billy the Kid, underwent a five-year forensic journey documented by National Geographic. Guijarro acknowledges the doubts and challenges faced during the investigation, emphasizing the surreal nature of the find. The couple’s intention is to continue their explorations while dispelling notions of hoarding.
