Dolly Parton, the iconic country music legend, has decided to retire from touring at the age of 76. In a recent interview with Pollstar, she explained, “A full-fledged tour is no longer in my future.” Instead, Parton plans to focus on her husband, Carl Thomas Dean, and continue making music.
Parton and Dean’s love story began in 1964 at the Wishy Washy Laundromat in Nashville. Despite an initial rejection, Dean was captivated by Parton’s beauty and declared, “I’m going to marry that girl.” Their secret wedding in 1966 in Ringgold, Georgia, marked the start of a lifelong love affair.
Reflecting on her decision to step back from touring, Parton emphasized the importance of being with her husband as they grow older. She expressed concern about potential family needs while she’s away, stating, “Something could happen. Someone may need me while I was away, and I wouldn’t be happy about it.”
Despite bidding farewell to tours, Parton is not slowing down. She is currently working on a new album and recently received a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nomination. As she enjoys her time with family, fans can anticipate more music from the beloved country music icon.
