A mysterious driver in Cornwall, England, took matters into their own hands by filling a large pothole with cement on Tanhouse Road and Bodmin Hill in Lostwithiel. The road had officially closed due to deteriorated surfaces caused by drainage issues, prompting frustration among locals. Despite a month of government inactivity, an anonymous individual filled the pothole over a weekend in May, temporarily reopening the road. However, Cornwall Council’s road repair company Cormac closed it again, emphasizing the lack of official repair. Cornwall Highways seeks the person responsible, noting the removal of signs without consent. Colin Martin, a councilor, criticized the situation, connecting it to broader underinvestment issues, saying, “the entire public sector is crumbling.” This incident echoes a 2017 case in Toronto, where a resident built park stairs for $550 instead of the estimated $65,000-$150,000, leading to city intervention.
