Gov. DeSantis Call For Ilhan Omar To Be Removed

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has called for the removal of Minnesota Representative Ilhan Omar from Congress, criticizing her recent speech where she prioritized Somalia’s interests over her role as an American politician. DeSantis also suggested denaturalizing and deporting Omar for her comments, highlighting a growing conservative backlash.

Omar’s speech in late January to Somalian leaders in Minnesota stirred controversy, as she emphasized being “Somalian first, Muslim second” without mentioning her commitment to the United States. Defense attorney Marina Medvin condemned Omar’s remarks, prompting DeSantis to declare, “Expel from Congress, denaturalize, and deport!”

Other lawmakers, including House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, criticized Omar, asserting that her “Somalia-first” comments disrespect Minnesotans and violate her oath of office. Ambassador Rhoda J Elmi of Somaliland denounced Omar’s “ethno-racist” rhetoric, describing it as unbecoming of her office and constituents.
