23-year-old Canadian woman was found dead at a resort in Mexico.
She and her boyfriend, an ice hockey player, had gone there to celebrate her birthday. The boyfriend has been detained in connection with the death.
The Grand Sunset Princess Resort in Playa del Carmen, on Mexico’s “gold coast” in the Caribbean, south of Cancun, was where Kiara Agnew’s body was found on Friday. She had arrived with Ryan Friesen, 26, the day before.
“A lifeless woman with possible signs of violence was found in a hotel in the Xcalacoco neighborhood,” the Secretariat of Public Security in Solidaridad said. They have detained a man.
Global Affairs Canada, a government agency, confirmed that Friesen was being held by Mexican police.
Global Affairs representative Charlotte MacLeod told the Star, “Officials are giving consular help to the families and are in touch with local authorities.” She also said, “No further information could be disclosed due to privacy concerns.”
My niece would have been 24 years old on March 11. Her aunt, who lives in New Brunswick, said that the family was still waiting for the results of the autopsy.
“This trip has been on her mind for a long time. That’s crazy. This is what we want to know, Levesque told the Star. “She was lovely on the inside and out. She shouldn’t have missed the chance to live her life to the fullest.
