My Sister Invited Me to an Upscale Restaurant, Vanished into the Bathroom When It Was Time to Pay the Bills

A woman was excited when her sister, who had moved nearby, invited her out for dinner. However, she was shocked when her sister disappeared when it was time to settle the bill.

The Reddit user, Wild-Eggplant1780, shared her story. Thrilled to have her sister close, she suggested they dine at a high-end restaurant. Despite its cost ($200-$250), her sister insisted on going. After an enjoyable meal, the sister excused herself to the bathroom but never returned. Her boyfriend also vanished after checking on her.

The woman and her husband were left with the bill. She texted her sister, who replied, “Thanks for dinner; it was just as amazing as you said it would be.” The Redditor warned her sister to return within 30 minutes to settle her bill, or she would pay her portion and let the restaurant take legal action. The sister did not return, and the woman followed through, giving the restaurant her sister’s details.

The next day, the sister called, angry about receiving calls from the restaurant demanding payment. The Redditor felt no remorse, stating, “I’m not surprised since she skipped out on her bill.” The sister argued that she usually paid for their dinners, assuming the Redditor would cover the cost this time.

Commenters supported the Redditor, praising her for standing her ground. They emphasized that the bill should be split unless someone volunteers to pay. One commenter noted the sister’s behavior was immature, suggesting the Redditor take a break from dining with her.

The Redditor and her sister are in their 30s. She felt her sister often saw her as a “piggy bank” rather than a sibling. Reflecting on past incidents, she felt used and questioned if she was right not to pay the bill. Do you think the Redditor was justified?
