My Husband Refused to Take Photos of Me on Our Vacation — His Reason Surprised Me, but My Plan Left Him in Tears

Hello everyone, Hannah here. This is a difficult story to convey, but I feel compelled to. I’m a 38-year-old mother of two lovely children (ages seven and five), and I’ve been married to my husband, Luke, for nearly a decade. We’ve faced our fair share of difficulties, as do all couples. But something happened during our recent trip to Mexico that stunned me more than anything else we’ve experienced.

Imagine this: we’re in Mexico, surrounded by stunning beaches and gorgeous weather. I had planned everything meticulously because, as a mom, I rarely get a break. This was supposed to be our time to reconnect and relax. But right from the start, Luke was acting weird. He kept avoiding taking photos and seemed protective of his phone. One afternoon, I found his phone on the bed and, driven by suspicion, I looked through his messages.

What I saw made my blood run cold. In a group chat, Luke had written, “Imagine, despite her weight, she still wants me to photograph her! Where would she fit into the photograph? She has not been the same after having birth.” I felt devastated and betrayed. I thought we were partners, but here he was, mocking me to his friends.

Overcome with rage, I posted our vacation photos on Facebook with the caption, “Looking for a new vacation partner. Am I really so unattractive that even my husband refuses to photograph me?” The post quickly gained likes and supportive comments. Luke noticed my change in mood but didn’t know why. The next day, he found out about my inheritance from an uncle. He approached me with flowers and an apology but ruined it by suggesting I use the money to lose weight.

I decided I was done. “Luke, I’m divorcing you,” I said. His reaction confirmed he valued my money more than me. I spent the rest of the day making arrangements to return home and start the divorce process. The support from my friends and family helped me regain my confidence.

In the days that followed, I focused on myself and my kids. I started working out, took up new hobbies, and spent more time with friends. One day, I ran into Luke at the mall. He tried to talk to me, but I walked away, feeling relieved and free. I realized I didn’t need Luke to validate my worth. I was ready to move forward with strength and self-love.

So, what do you think? Did I handle things correctly or was my reaction too overboard? What would you have done differently in my shoes?
