If you are a baggage handler, here’s why you never should tie anything to your suitcase

A Dublin Airport baggage handler has warned travelers against personalizing their luggage with ribbons, saying it could “do more harm than good.” Many travelers decorate their suitcases with ribbons or stickers to make them easier to spot. However, the employee, John, cautioned that these additions can interfere with the baggage scanning process, potentially causing delays or even preventing the luggage from making it onto the plane.

“Ribbons people tie onto their suitcases to help identify them can cause issues with the bag being scanned in the baggage hall,” he explained. John also advised travelers to remove old stickers from their bags to avoid confusion during scanning.

For a stress-free experience, he suggested placing suitcases wheels-up to prevent damage. Additionally, John warned against packing marzipan due to its “same density” as some explosives, which could lead to extensive security checks.

In short, leave the ribbons and marzipan at home to ensure a smooth travel experience.
