A six-year-old boy was found dead alongside his father in what Michigan police suspect to be a murder-suicide. The boy’s mother alerted authorities on August 19 after the father, Michael Steven Winchell, failed to return their son, Rowan Milford Morey, as scheduled. A search ensued, involving police and family members.
On August 21, family members discovered an isolated camper on Winchell’s property. Inside, they found both Winchell and Rowan deceased. Initial reports suggest that Winchell shot his son before turning the gun on himself.
The boy’s mother expressed her grief on Facebook, stating, “Thank you for sending your prayers for a safe return. Unfortunately, our fears were confirmed and Rowan has been found but is no longer with us.”
The investigation is ongoing.
