The small hole on the sink which seems unnecesary actyally has a surprising function

The small hole near the top of a sink, often overlooked, actually serves an important purpose. This overflow hole prevents water from spilling over if the sink becomes too full. When the main drain gets clogged, the hole acts as a backup, allowing excess water to escape.

It also helps with drainage speed. “The hole allows air to flow into the pipes,” preventing a vacuum effect and allowing water to drain faster. Without this vent, water might take longer to empty from the sink.

Another function is hygiene. The overflow hole prevents stagnant water buildup, which could otherwise become a breeding ground for bacteria. This keeps your sink cleaner and more sanitary over time.

In summary, this small hole is crucial for safety, faster drainage, and maintaining cleanliness, even though it might seem unnecessary at first glance.
