A tragic incident occurred on October 28, 2024, when Chianti Means and her two young children, nine-year-old Roman Rossman and five-month-old Mecca Means, fell over Niagara Falls near Luna Island. New York State Police suspect the fall was intentional, though the investigation into the exact circumstances is ongoing.

The New York State Park Police and Bureau of Criminal Investigation responded swiftly to the emergency, deploying numerous resources, including drones, marine patrols, and an underwater recovery unit. Despite extensive efforts, the bodies have not been recovered.
