Donald Trump, President-elect, announced on Friday that Karoline Leavitt, 27, will serve as the White House press secretary. This makes her the youngest person ever to hold this pivotal position.
Leavitt previously served as Trump’s national press secretary during his campaign and earned recognition for her communication skills. In a statement, Trump praised her as “smart, tough, and a highly effective communicator,” expressing confidence in her ability to deliver the administration’s message to the American public.
Leavitt, a New Hampshire native, gave birth to her first child in July, shortly before the election. In an interview with a Fox News podcast, she shared, “I grew up like most Americans in a middle-class business family here in my home state of New Hampshire.”
Her career in politics began during her studies at Saint Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire. She worked as an assistant press secretary for Trump during his first term, later becoming communications director for Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, whom Trump has now nominated as UN ambassador.
In 2022, Leavitt made an unsuccessful bid for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives from New Hampshire.
