A woman took to Reddit to share her heartbreaking decision to end her marriage after her husband requested a DNA test for their son. The test was prompted by her mother-in-law’s relentless comments about the child’s appearance.

From the birth of their son, the woman’s mother-in-law constantly claimed the child didn’t resemble his father. “For a while now, [my MIL] has been making comments about how my son doesn’t look like my husband… basically accusing me of sleeping around,” she wrote.

The woman hoped her husband would defend her, but instead, he caved to his mother’s pressure. His request for a DNA test, not out of personal doubt but to appease his mother, left her devastated. She explained, “His lack of action and support caused a rift between us… I didn’t feel respected.”

Determined to protect her dignity and her son’s future, the woman agreed to the test but secretly prepared divorce papers and started searching for a new home.

When the results confirmed the child was indeed his, she announced her decision to leave. “It was a huge slap in the face for them, but they didn’t deserve anything less,” she said, prioritizing her son’s well-being over a dysfunctional marriage.
