Why You Should Never Tie a Ribbon on Your Luggage, According to a Baggage Handler”

Ever struggled to spot your suitcase at the baggage carousel? Many travelers tie colorful ribbons to make their bags stand out. However, a seasoned baggage handler at Dublin Airport warns against this habit.

“Ribbons that people tie onto their suitcases can cause issues with the bag being scanned in the baggage hall,” he explains. Automated baggage systems rely on smooth scanning, and ribbons can interfere, leading to manual processing. This may result in delays or, worse, your bag missing its flight.

Other Surprising No-Gos
Ribbons aren’t the only things to avoid. Packing marzipan in your luggage is another. “It has the same density as some explosives,” the handler notes. This can trigger security checks, creating unnecessary stress and delays.

Better Alternatives
Instead of ribbons, opt for a bold suitcase color or personalize it with stickers, fabric paint, or unique designs. These methods are scanner-friendly and make your bag easy to spot without causing disruptions.

By skipping ribbons and using these tips, you can ensure smoother travel, avoid unnecessary headaches, and improve the chances of your luggage arriving on time.
