Michelin-starred chef makes Christmas plea to thieves who stole $30K worth of pies

Michelin-starred chef Tommy Banks faced a holiday setback when thieves stole his refrigerated van containing $30,000 worth of pies. Banks, known for his culinary excellence, took to Instagram with an unexpected request for the culprits: “I know you’re a criminal, but maybe just do something nice because it’s Christmas, and maybe we can feed a few thousand people with these pies that you’ve stolen. Do the right thing.”

The van, holding 2,500 pies in flavors like steak and ale, turkey, and butternut squash, was taken from a Ripon business park in northern Britain. Banks revealed, “Staff went in the morning to pick up the van, and it has been stolen.” The van had been plugged in overnight to ensure the pies remained fresh.

Originally destined for a pop-up stall in nearby York, the pies now face an uncertain fate. Despite the setback, Banks hopes the thieves will consider donating the food to those in need during the festive season.

This heartfelt appeal highlights the chef’s commitment to community and generosity, even amid personal loss.
