Dr. Kelly Powers, a physician and surgeon known for her dedication to helping others, passed away on December 1, 2024, at 45. She is survived by her husband, Steven Doll, and their three-year-old son, Bennett. Powers battled glioblastoma, an aggressive brain cancer diagnosed in 2020 following a severe collapse.
Announcing her diagnosis, Powers shared on Instagram: “After tests, imaging & further evaluation, I was diagnosed with a BRAIN TUMOR… I’m still in disbelief.” Despite fear and uncertainty, she faced three surgeries, radiation, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy with remarkable resilience.
Determined to build a family despite medical advice against pregnancy, Powers and her husband welcomed Bennett via surrogacy in 2021. “We are all doing well & so happy to start this new adventure as a family of 3,” she wrote joyfully.
In 2024, Powers revealed her cancer had returned. “Riding high, then shot down,” she wrote. Her family turned to innovative treatment in Germany, raising $88,009 through a GoFundMe campaign. Tragically, the therapy could not save her.
Remembered for her vibrant spirit and love for life, Powers balanced passions like gardening and surfing with her career. Her obituary celebrated her as “a brave and beautiful soul.” Friend Rachel Dickerson shared, “Kelly was so full of light and love… passionate about LIVING.”
Powers’ legacy endures in her family, friends, and the countless lives she touched through her compassion and expertise.
