Janet never expected to become a mother, knowing from a young age it wasn’t likely. But “destiny had other ideas,” rewarding her faith and perseverance. At 24, she married Graham, and despite 12 failed attempts in the 1980s, they refused to give up. On their 13th try, doctors delivered the news: “You’re pregnant, ma’am.”
At her eight-week ultrasound, Janet noticed the doctor’s wide eyes. “You’re expecting six children,” they informed her, and the odds of carrying them to term were slim. Still, Janet stayed calm, believing everything would work out.
Doctors advised waiting until 23 weeks to maximize the babies’ chances. Despite the pain, Janet persevered. At 31 weeks, a C-section was performed, attended by seven medical teams. On November 18, 1983, Janet delivered six healthy girls.
Returning home a month later, Janet and Graham navigated the chaos with government support, including nurses. “Two hours of sleep” became their norm, but they embraced the challenge.
The Walton sextuplets became a sensation, appearing in ads and TV shows. Over the years, they pursued diverse careers, from teaching to baking. By 2021, Janet celebrated having three granddaughters, expressing her joy in building a “large, devoted family.”
