A deadly shooting occurred at Madison Abundant Life Christian School on December 16, 2024, leaving three dead, including the shooter, and six others injured. Survivors described the event as “super sad” and “really scary.”
Police confirmed that 15-year-old Natalie Rupnow, a student at the school, carried out the premeditated attack. A second-grader’s critical 911 call helped authorities respond quickly. “It makes my heart skip a beat to think about that,” said Police Chief Shon Barnes, praising the student’s bravery. Teachers initiated lockdowns, ensuring students followed safety protocols.
The tragedy claimed the lives of a teacher, a student, and Rupnow, who died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Six others were injured, with two in critical condition.
Bethany Highman, a parent, recalled her panic upon hearing the news. “I pray with my kids every morning that this won’t happen,” she shared. Brit Grange, another parent, expressed relief after reuniting with her children but empathized with grieving families: “My heart goes out to the families that aren’t that fortunate.”
Eight-year-old Nora Gottschalk, who called 911, reflected on her fear, saying, “I was really scared, and I was really sad.” The close-knit school community mourns the loss while drawing strength from each other.
