Pharmacist reveals two warning signs of silent killer that you might spot in your feet

Certain overlooked symptoms, like changes in your feet and toes, can signal health issues. Noel Wicks, a pharmacist and advisor to Excilor, explains that feet can reveal much about overall health. For example, “cold and numb feet may result from clogged blood vessels,” which are small and prone to blockage.

Changes in toenails are also significant. According to Wicks, “Thickening and brittleness of toenails may occur with heart disease.” Peripheral vascular disease (PAD), caused by narrowed or blocked blood vessels, is another concern. The NHS notes that PAD can lead to “a painful ache in the legs when walking, known as intermittent claudication,” which eases with rest.

Other symptoms to watch for include tingling, pain, burning sensations, and persistent dry or cracked skin. Blisters or sores that fail to heal may also indicate underlying issues. Fungal infections, such as athlete’s foot, could point to broader health concerns.

Yellowing toenails can be linked to diabetes or heart problems. Wicks stresses the importance of seeking medical advice for any bodily changes, not just those in your feet. Early attention can help uncover and address potential health problems.
