Hope Gordon, a 6-year-old from West Calder, Scotland, and her father, Mark Gordon, 36, were found dead at home on January 20 after Hope missed school. Police Chief Superintendent Gregg Banks said they responded to a “concern for” call from a family member.
Following investigations, authorities suspect a murder-suicide but found no evidence of third-party involvement. Detective Superintendent Grant Hendry stated, “Our thoughts remain with Hope’s family and friends, along with everyone affected by this tragedy.” Both families are receiving specialist support.
Hope’s mother, who shared custody, had not been with her daughter recently. Authorities urge anyone with relevant information to contact them. Chief Superintendent Banks assured the public the incident was isolated, with no broader safety concerns.
Toronto Primary School staff mourn Hope, remembering her as “bright, bubbly, and affectionate.” Head teacher Fiona Linfoot added, “We will really miss her infectious smile and kind heart.”
