Sometimes, social media is a dangerous place. Eleven-year-old Tommie-Lee Billington from Lancaster, England, lost his life after attempting a popular TikTok challenge.
At a sleepover, Tommie and a friend found the challenge online and decided to try it. The trend allegedly involves inhaling dangerous gases like spray deodorant or dry shampoo for a high. Tragically, “the moment Tommie inhaled the gas, he went into cardiac arrest and died instantly.”
His devastated mother, Sherri, warned other parents: “This cost my son his life from trying something other kids are doing. Please talk to your children about the consequences.” She vowed to spread awareness: “Your beautiful face will become the reason that other children’s lives will be saved.”
Sadly, this isn’t an isolated case. Thirteen-year-old Esra Haynes also lost her life to the same challenge. Tommie’s grandmother, Tina Burns, shared, “The hospital did everything to try and bring him back, but nothing worked.”
Rest in peace, Tommie. Please share this story to help spread his mother’s message.
