Homeless man arrested on suspicion of arson near LA’s Kenneth Fire after being detained by residents with a ‘flamethrower’

A homeless man was arrested on suspicion of arson after allegedly using a flamethrower to ignite fires near the Kenneth Fire in Los Angeles. Witnesses in Woodland Hills saw him setting “old Christmas trees and trash cans on fire” Thursday afternoon.

Local residents quickly acted, “cornering the man as he tried to flee on a bicycle.” Some restrained him with “zip ties and rope until authorities arrived.”

Although LAPD investigated the Kenneth Fire as possible arson, the man was only arrested for “a felony parole violation” due to insufficient evidence.

Meanwhile, the Kenneth Fire continues to spread, burning “960 acres with no containment as of Friday.”
