James Harrison, ‘The Man With the Golden Arm,’ Dies at 88

James Harrison, the world’s most prolific blood donor, has died at 88. Known as “The Man With the Golden Arm,” he donated plasma over 1,100 times, helping save more than 2.4 million babies.

Harrison’s rare Anti-D antibody was crucial in preventing RhD, a disease that once killed half of affected babies. “James was a humanitarian at heart,” said his daughter, Tracy.

A national hero, he received Australia’s Medal of the Order and held the world record for plasma donations. He passed peacefully on February 17 at Peninsula Village Nursing Home.
