SCOTUS Denies Request To Consider Climate Lawsuits

The U.S. Supreme Court refused to hear challenges to lawsuits against oil companies seeking compensation for climate change damages. Critics say these cases promote “anti-fossil fuel policies” and could lead to “billions in payouts,” raising costs for consumers.

O.H. Skinner from the Alliance for Consumers warned the lawsuits might “drive up costs” and push the Green New Deal through court orders. The cases, filed under state nuisance laws, face opposition from a coalition of 19 states, arguing they violate constitutional principles.
