Trump Suspends Military Aid to Ukraine After Oval Office Blowup

President Trump temporarily suspended all U.S. military aid to Ukraine, impacting over $1 billion in arms and ammunition. The decision follows a heated confrontation between Trump and Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House. The suspension will remain until Ukraine shows a “good-faith commitment to peace negotiations with Russia.”

The move strains U.S.-Ukraine relations and benefits Russian President Vladimir Putin, who may exploit the pause to gain ground. If prolonged, the suspension could force Zelensky into a cease-fire on Trump’s terms, weakening Ukraine’s battlefield position.

“I just think he should be more appreciative,” Trump said, referencing Zelensky’s comments that a peace deal with Russia was “still very, very far away.” The suspension contrasts with NATO allies like France, Britain, and Germany, which recently increased aid to Ukraine but lack the stockpiles to fill the gap.

Trump’s directive also halts deliveries from Pentagon stockpiles and the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative. It remains unclear what actions Zelensky must take to resume military aid.
