Mariska Hargitay openly shared her emotional journey of adopting her daughter, Amaya Josephine. After having her first child, August, she and her husband, Peter Hermann, considered adoption to expand their family.
Their journey led them to Haiti, where Mariska described meeting Amaya as “life-changing,” feeling an instant and powerful connection. Despite the challenges, she believed Amaya was “meant to be part of their family,” calling the experience like “finding a missing piece of her heart.”
Amaya brought immense joy into their lives, with Mariska referring to her as “the gift that kept on giving.”
She encourages others to view adoption as a beautiful way to create a family, advocating for children in need of loving homes.
