Trump declares ‘America is back’ in speech before Congress

President Donald Trump began his address to Congress by declaring, “To my fellow citizens, America is back,” after thanking Congress members and First Lady Melania Trump.

He highlighted his administration’s rapid progress, saying, “We have accomplished more in 43 days than most administrations accomplished in four years or eight years.” The audience responded with chants of “USA, USA, USA.”

Trump arrived at the podium around 9:15 p.m. to cheers from conservatives, while most Democrats stayed seated.

A protest broke out when Rep. Al Green, D-Texas, refused to stop yelling. Speaker Mike Johnson warned, “Members are engaging in willful and continuing breach of decorum,” before Green was removed.

This address is Trump’s first before Congress since returning to office in January, though it doesn’t hold the official State of the Union title.
