Newly sworn-in Attorney General Pam Bondi announced the Trump administration’s lawsuit against New York State, Governor Kathy Hochul, and Attorney General Letitia James for allegedly shielding illegal immigrants. Bondi stated, “New York has chosen to prioritize illegal aliens over American citizens. It stops. It stops today.”
The lawsuit targets New York’s “Green Light” laws, which allow illegal immigrants to obtain driver’s licenses. Bondi claims these laws give illegal immigrants a “green light” to stay in the state without facing full federal scrutiny.
Mark Schroeder, New York’s DMV commissioner, is also named in the lawsuit. Bondi argues the legislation blocks federal officers from accessing driver’s license databases during routine stops.
The administration views the laws as a violation of federal immigration enforcement, accusing New York of deliberately undermining national security.
Bondi emphasized the lawsuit aims to protect American citizens and uphold federal law.
