Ontario Premier Threatens US Energy Cutoff Amid Trade War
Ontario Premier Doug Ford doubled down on his warning to “cut off” US energy but apologized “to the American people.”
President Trump imposed tariffs of 25% on Canadian and Mexican goods and 20% on China, effective March 4, calling it a response to drug imports. He suggested Canada avoid tariffs by becoming the US’ “Cherished 51st state.”
In response, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced 25% counter-tariffs on CA $155 billion of US goods.
Ford warned, “They rely on our energy, they need to feel the pain.” Later, he clarified, “It’s not you; it’s your president.”
