Vice President JD Vance’s whispered comment during Donald Trump’s speech to Congress has sparked controversy. A lip reader claimed Vance warned of ‘a full reckoning’ that was ‘long overdue.’
Before Trump’s near-100-minute speech, Vance joked with House Speaker Mike Johnson about their ties, saying, “We could have coordinated, I guess.” Later, Vance reportedly told Johnson, “By the way, I think the speech is going to be great. But I don’t know how you do this for 90 minutes.”
Vance’s recent comments on Fox News added fuel to the backlash. He suggested that the best security guarantee for Ukraine is giving Americans “economic upside” rather than relying on countries that haven’t fought a war in “30 or 40 years.” The statement was seen as disrespectful to the UK and France, both of which pledged troops to a potential peacekeeping force.
One critic tweeted, “JD Vance’s claim insults the 600+ British troops who died in Iraq and Afghanistan… time for an apology, not ignorance.”
The controversy continues as Vance faces growing criticism on social media.
