Hugh Laurie, who earned $700,000 per episode on House, admitted he felt like a fraud. “My dad would have hated” that he played “a fake version” of a doctor instead of becoming a real one.
His father, Dr. William Laurie, was an Olympic gold medalist and respected physician. Hugh initially followed in his footsteps, rowing at Cambridge with plans for medical school.
Everything changed when he joined the Cambridge Footlights, meeting Emma Thompson and Stephen Fry.
Laurie found success in comedy and acting, starring in Blackadder, Sense and Sensibility, and 101 Dalmatians before landing House in 2004.
