Pope Francis is in critical health condition, Vatican says

Pope Francis is in critical condition after a severe asthmatic respiratory crisis on Saturday. He needed high-flow oxygen and a blood transfusion for anemia. Though in more pain, he remains alert. His prognosis is “reserved.”

The 88-year-old pontiff’s health is worsened by pneumonia, requiring hospitalization for at least a week.

Born Jorge Mario Bergoglio in 1936 in Buenos Aires, he became the 266th pope in 2013. He is known for prioritizing social justice, poverty, and environmental issues.

Throughout his papacy, he has advocated for humility, mercy, and Church reform. Despite his current condition, his impact on global issues remains significant.
