House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) suggested that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy may need to step down after a tense public exchange with former President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance in Washington.
Zelenskyy met with Trump, Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and others in the Oval Office on Friday. During the meeting, he clashed with them over a mineral rights deal and efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war.
The discussion turned heated as Zelenskyy pushed back against Trump’s stance, leading to a tense moment in front of reporters. “Zelenskyy’s approach was confrontational, which didn’t sit well with Trump and Vance,” a source said.
Johnson later commented on the incident, stating, “This level of discord is unacceptable. It raises questions about whether Zelenskyy can still effectively lead Ukraine.”
The meeting underscored ongoing tensions between Ukraine and U.S. leaders, with growing concerns about the future of U.S. support for Ukraine’s war efforts.
