Man Who Beat His 2-Day-

Liam Deane, jailed for killing his newborn daughter, was found dead in his prison cell just one month after his sentencing. Authorities allege fellow inmate John Westland was responsible.

Deane had been sentenced to life in prison after admitting to fatally attacking his 2-day-old daughter, Luna. He confessed to punching and shaking her because she “would not stop crying.” Luna died three days later from severe brain injuries.

“He said he was responsible for all of the injuries that she had suffered,” the prosecutor said, according to *Mirror*. “Luna had not settled down and he lost control.”

Richard Wright, Deane’s defense lawyer, told the court in Leeds, England, “In my submission there is simply no explanation for the defendant’s behavior.”

Following Deane’s death, Westland appeared in court regarding the incident.
