A Texas couple has been sentenced for the horrific death of their 8-year-old adopted daughter, Jaylin Schwarz. Daniel Schwarz, 47, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and received 18 years in prison. His wife, Ashley Schwarz, 37, was convicted of capital murder and sentenced to three life terms.
In 2020, police responded to a medical call in Odessa, Texas. “What they found at the scene is something no one should ever have to witness.” Investigators discovered Jaylin had been forced to jump nonstop on a trampoline in 110-degree heat, without food or water. After collapsing, she was denied water, causing her death by dehydration. A search warrant confirmed the trampoline surface reached 110°F, and the ground below was a scorching 150°F. An autopsy ruled her death a homicide.
Jaylin and her sister, Jade, had been placed in the Schwarzs’ care after their biological mother, Alysha Anderton—Ashley’s stepsister—lost custody due to addiction. Alysha later shared, “What upsets me the most is that I never got to see her alive again… The first time I saw my daughter since losing custody was in a casket.”
It’s another devastating reminder of cruelty against innocent children.
