Parents Chose to Remove Their Baby’s Birthmark to Avoid the Rudeness of Others

Vienna Rose Brookshaw was born with a large birthmark on her forehead, a condition called congenital melanocytic nevi. Her parents, Celine and Daniel, worried she might be bullied in the future. “We went out daily with her, and we got a few stares,” Celine shared. Concerned she’d resent them later, they sought to have it removed.

Because the procedure was cosmetic, insurance wouldn’t cover it. They turned to crowdfunding and quickly raised $52,000, later needing an extra $27,000 due to rising costs. However, the surgeon refused, believing it should be Vienna’s decision when she was older. Although the birthmark wasn’t cancerous, her parents pushed for surgery. “We’d love her no matter what, even if we did keep the birthmark,” Celine explained.

Eventually, they found a surgeon, and Vienna underwent successful surgery. Her parents made frequent trips for follow-ups, ensuring her scar healed safely.

Despite criticism—some labeled Celine a “child abuser”—Vienna received overwhelming support online. One follower wrote, “She’s going to have such a better life,” while another said, “She was a beauty before, and now!”Today, Vienna is healthy and happy. Her scar has healed well and will likely fade in time.
