Respecting names and pronouns is essential, yet many resist this practice.
Bennett Kaspar-Williams, 37, and husband Malik welcomed their son Hudson in October 2020. Despite identifying as male, hospital staff repeatedly misgendered him, calling him “mom” instead of “dad.”
Kaspar-Williams, who began transitioning in 2014, had top surgery but chose not to undergo lower procedures.
He described childbirth as both rewarding and difficult, saying, “Being called ‘mom’ despite marking ‘male’ on forms was distressing.”
His experience highlights the need to separate “womanhood and motherhood,” ensuring gender identity is respected in medical settings.
