For hours, the family held out hope. Maybe Ajay had been taken to another hospital. But Air India confirmed late Thursday: of the 242 on board, only one survived — Viswash. Ajay was not among them.
“We’re just baffled, baffled,” said Nayankumar. “It’s a miracle at least one of them survived.”
Viswash and Ajay were in India on a business trip. Viswash had previously worked as director of RMV Fashion, a Leicester-based company that closed in 2022. After the crash, Viswash’s first sign of life was a call home, saying he had escaped the burning aircraft. But Ajay’s phone kept ringing without an answer.
Their cousin, Ajay Valgi, also from Leicester, shared his grief: “They were sitting next to each other. But we don’t know what happened to Ajay. We’re not doing well. We’re all upset.”
One brother lived. One brother didn’t. And a family is left clinging to the memory of both.
